TDIN’S DROP-IN SKILLS CERTIFICATES



Twice a year, the Toronto Drop-in Network (TDIN) partners with the Toronto Hostels Training Centre (THTC) to give drop-in staff and participants opportunities for professional development. The three courses are all open to drop-in participants, peers, drop-in staff, drop-in managers, and anyone looking to learn more about drop-ins.


DROP-IN BEST PRACTICES TWO DAY OVERVIEW COURSE
(SEPTEMBER 21 AND 22, 2017)
 Learn about the history and policies that affect drop-ins and homelessness in Toronto.
 Explore the different types of drop-in models that exist in the city.
 Understand and see examples of the nine best practices of operating a drop-in.
 Tour a variety of drop-ins and learn from workers about the different ways that drop-ins operate, and hear about their recreational and social programs.


EFFECTIVELY SUPPORTING DROP-IN PARTICIPANTS’ GOALS
(OCTOBER 26, 2017)
 Sharpen your advocacy skills.
 Find out what skills you need to assess and meet your clients’ needs.
 Get great tips on making good referrals.
 Hear from guest speakers from community agencies.


DROP-IN PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT: TOOLS FOR COLLABORATION
(NOVEMBER 30, 2017)
 Learn new tools and strategies to further involve drop-in participants in many different areas of the drop-in, such as program planning.
 Explore and engage in discussions on power dynamics.
 Hear from current and former drop-in participants about how to increase
participant engagement in drop-ins.
