TDIN has received $140,000 from the City of Toronto as part of the $4.97 million TO Supports Investment Fund, which is being distributed to community agencies to address the impacts of COVID-19 on communities.
This funding will be utilized to create a Restaurant Voucher Program, based on a pilot project by TDIN member Met United, which will prioritize food access for people experiencing homelessness. The primary geographical focus will be on the downtown core.
The aim of TDIN's Restaurant Voucher Program is to create partnerships with local restaurants, prioritizing BIPOC-owned businesses, who will provide meals on-demand to support the food security of people experiencing homelessness. TDIN has contracted these partners to create a set number of meals, which drop-in participants can access outside of drop-in hours and at no cost using a meal voucher.
TDIN is extremely excited about this program, understanding that it produces mutual benefit for people who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, and local and BIPOC-owned small business. TDIN's mandate is to help foster a city that is equitable and inclusive, and we believe that this program speaks to that.
